F. 4:31-43 NATURE OF JESUS' MINISTRY
1. 4:31-37 A DEMONSTRATION OF POWER IN CAPERNAUM
a. 4:31a And he came down to Capernaum, a city of :Galilee.

b. 4:31b-32 THE AUTHORITY IN JESUS' TEACHING

And he was teaching them on the sabbaths:

32and they were astonished at his :teaching; because his :word was with authority.
c. 4:33-34 AN UNCLEAN SPIRIT CAST OUT
kai en te su-na-goGE en ANthro-pos, Echon PNEUma dai-moNIou [1140] a-kaTHARtou [169];
And in the synagogue was a man, having a spirit of an unclean demon;
kai aNEkra-xen phoNE meGAle, Ea! ti heMIN kai soi, IeSOU Na-za-reNE?
and he cried out with a loud voice, 34Ah! what have we to do with you, Jesus Nazarene?

did you come to destroy us? I know you who you are, the Holy One of :God.
d. 4:35a And :Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be silent, and come out of him.

f. 4:36 AMAZEMENT: RESULT OF JESUS' AUTHORITY

And amazement came upon all, and they spoke together,

one with another, saying, What isthis :word,

that with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out?
g. 4:37 And a rumor concerning him went forth into every place of the region round about.

2. 4:38-39 HEALING OF PETER'S MOTHER-IN-LAW
a. 4:38a And he rose up from the synagogue, andentered into the house of Simon.

b. 4:38b And :Simon's mother-in-law was held with a great fever; and they entreated him for her.

c. 4:39 AN IMMEDIATE HEALING

And he stood over her, andrebuked the fever; and it left her:

and immediately she rose andministered to them.
3. 4:40-41 HE HEALS AND DELIVERS DEMONIACS AT SUNDOWN
a. 4:40 EVENING HEALINGS

And when the sun was setting, all that had anyweak

with different sicknesses brought them unto him;

and HE laid :hands on every one of them, andcured them.
b. 4:41a And demons also came out from many, crying out, and saying [that] You are the Son of :God.

c. 4:41b And rebuking them, he suffered them not to speak, because they knew he was the Christ.

4. 4:42-43 JESUS' MANDATE: TO PREACH KINGDOM TO ALL CITIES
a. 4:42 CROWDS WOULD STAY JESUS
Ge-noMEnes de heMEras, e-xelTHON e-poREUthe eis Ere-mon TOpon:
And when it was day, he came out andwent into a desert place:
kai hoi OCHloi e-peZEtoun [2212] auTON, kai ELthon HEos auTOU,
and the crowds sought after him, and came unto him,
kai kaTEIchon [2722] auTON, tou me poREUes-thai ap' auTON.
and would have stayed him, that he go not from them.
b. 4:43 HE INFORMS THEM OF HIS MANDATE

But he said unto them [that], I must preach the good tidings of the kingdom of :God
ten ba-siLEIan [932] tou TheOU: HOti ePI TOUto a-peSTAlen.
to the other cities also: because for this I was sent.
G. 4:44 And he was preaching in the synagogues of :Judea.

NOTE: 4:31-37 - Jesus' teaching was alwaysaccompanied with “signs following: (Mark 16:17-20). This was also true for His early disciples and apostles following the formation of the Church. Jesus said, “Iwill build Mychurch, and the gates or counsels of hell shall notprevail against it.”The early church was noton the defensive, but on the offensive! It was Satan running scared, not the early believers. Jesus and His first disciples are our example of how the church ought to be in the world. His word was with authority- that is - it was a miraculously confirmed word of casting out demons and healing the sick. And - nothing has changed in the last 2000 years, except many have retreated from this early example and teaching.
4:38-39 - Immediately! Jesus laid hands upon - the fever left - and Peter's mother-in-law immediatelyarose and ministered to them!
4:40-41 - Jesus here healed every oneof those brought to Him at sun-down. The demons He cast out knewHe was God's Son, and the promised Messiah to come. Few in Israel had this spirit-insight of the demons. Simeon and Anna knew! The Wise Men from the East knew. Peter near the end of Jesus' ministry had it revealed to him by the Father. After Pentecost, allin the early church then knew. We need to pray for a fresh revelation of these Mysteries to become real for our day.
But one thing - Jesus did not wantwitness of His true identity from demonic sources. Nor did Paul when in Philippi. The girl with the python spirit followed them with demonic revelation. Paul was grieved, and cast the spirit out. And do demonic spirits know of these things today? Of course. There areseances truly having such demons present. There arefalse religions birthed by such demonic spirits. They too have insights from false sources. Like Jesus and Paul - Shut them up. Don't receive from such sources. My wife Marie and I have known high leaders who have questioned demonic sources to obtain revelation! Obscene!
4:42-43 - Jesus would not yield to those who would deter Him from His Father's mandate! His call was to reach all the cities and villages of Judah. Nothing would deter Him from His true call. Only His Father had His full attention. As the Son of :man, He was the perfect servant of Isaiah 42:1-9; 49:1-13; 50:4-11; 52:13-53:12. These four Servant-Songs greatly glorify Jesus the Son of :man prophetically in advance.
4:44 - Thisis a Bible Numeric paragraph in one verse! It magnifies the faithfulness of Jesus to His Father as Son of :man. J.A.W.
